Rick Hinshaw has spent more than 30 years in Catholic communications work: as a reporter, news editor, columnist and for eight years editor of The Long Island Catholic; for several years as co-host and co-producer of The Catholic Forum TV show on the Rockville Centre diocesan Telecare channel; in two stints as Director of Communications for the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights; and as Associate Director for Communications at the New York State Catholic Conference.
Rick also has a long history of pro-life leadership: as the founder and first president of Long Island Youth for Life and Justice; a vice president of the Long Island Coalition for Life; for almost two years as director of the Rockville Centre diocesan Office of Family Ministry/Respect Life; and for ten years as author of the Respect Life column in The Long Island Catholic.
Rick has also been very active in politics and government on Long Island; as a State Assembly candidate and later Assembly District Leader and then State Committee member of the New York Conservative Party; and for three years as Public Information Officer for Denis Dillon, the late District Attorney of Nassau County, NY, and a staunch Catholic and active pro-life leader.
Rick holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Political Science from the C.W. Post Center of Long Island University and has taught as an adjunct lecturer in Political Science at C.W. Post and Dowling Colleges on Long Island. He is a member of the Society of Catholic Social Scientists and the Msgr. Walsh St. Raymond’s Council of the Knights of Columbus.
